Our course has been assured by the Department for Education, to deliver training for Senior Mental Health Leads in schools and colleges.
Our course has been designed to help Senior Mental Health Leads develop a positive mental health strategy for their school or college, to support the mental health of the adults working in educational settings.
Aimed at those new to the role, or who want to gain more confidence, you will be fully supported to create and implement a positive mental health strategy in your school or college that supports the mental health of everyone who works there.

DELIVERY
Using a variety of face-to-face group and individual sessions, delivered virtually or in-person, our course covers the following aspects of the ‘Eight principles to promoting a whole school and college approach to emotional health and wellbeing’:
- 1.Staff development
- 2.Leadership and management
- 3.Working with parents, families and carers
The course will be delivered by former school teachers, supported by our psychology professionals, who have experience of supporting colleagues experiencing challenges with their mental health.
Course Content
The course covers a wide range of topics, including:
- Understanding your role as a Senior Mental Health Lead
- Exploring strategies to help everyone support their own mental health
- Developing ideas for engaging the whole school community
- Assessing the needs of your school or college
- Developing skills to educate your teams about mental health
- Understanding why parents, carers and families are important for creating a positive mental health strategy for your setting
- Key aspects of workplace mental health
- Knowing who the key stakeholders are and understanding how to work with them to ensure your strategy is a success.
- Planning for the successful implementation of your strategy and ensuring it has sustainable outcomes
COURSE FORMAT
The course will use an innovative approach, spread across three terms, to help you gain confidence and ensure that your strategy is successfully implemented and sustainable for the long term.
Term One
- Audit existing school mental health practices
- Attend two one-day in-person or four 3-hour online training sessions
- One individual telephone conversation with the trainer
Term Two
- One online conference
- One individual telephone conversation with the trainer
Term Three
- One online conference
The telephone conversations will provide an opportunity to discuss how implementation of your strategy is going and develop approaches to overcome any barriers that have been encountered.
The online conferences allow continued dialogue between members of the training cohort, so that ideas can be shared, challenges overcome and successes celebrated. It is intended that the cohort will continue to organise conferences going forward into year two.
Course Cost
The cost of the course is £495 + VAT per delegate, which is fully funded by the Department for Education.
This includes all aspects of the course across three terms.
Course Dates
We will be delivering several courses throughout this academic year:
Autumn Term
- Virtual courses starting mid September, October and early November 2023
- In-person courses starting mid November 2023
- These courses will complete during the summer term 2024
Spring Term
- Virtual courses starting mid January and early March 2024
- In-person courses starting late February 2024
- These courses will complete during the autumn term 2024
Summer Term
- Virtual courses starting early May and June 2023
- In-person courses starting early May and mid June 2023
- These courses will complete during the spring term 2024
Venue
The in-person courses will be held on two full days (with lunch provided) in the centre of beautiful Bury St Edmunds, with car parking and railway station nearby.
All virtual courses are delivered across four sessions, by live trainers, with plenty of opportunities for participation throughout each module.
Both formats allow participants to network with other delegates.
